Missing you

Grandma,

I wish I could tell you in person that I am pregnant! We decided to wait to find of the gender of our child until the birth...I bet you know what that is like! I have so many questions I would like to ask you about what all SIX pregnancies were like for you now that I am in this life-stage. I am sure you would have plenty of remedies for all of the ails. Luckily, morning sickness was not too bad during my first trimester, but I could not believe how incredibly tired I was! I had a few health concerns during my first trimester that were pretty scary for myself and the baby. Going through that made me realize what a miracle life is and that healthy babies are a blessing that should not be taken for granted.

I am really missing you and wishing that our child could know your beautiful soul. I am so grateful for the memories, photos, and home videos of you.

I love you Grandma!
Rachel

Letter from Susie - 2016

Dear Mom,

Today is Feb. 29th 2016; a leap year. Tomorrow will mark 13 years missing you.  Dad is really having some difficult days.  Although we are all doing our very best to take care of him, Jerry and Rose have taken on so many of the tasks necessary for his care.  I think dad appreciates all of the attention and love that he is getting and is accepting of our help - well for the most part anyway. Watch over him and help him find comfort and happiness.  I am hoping each one of us will be given the opportunity to let dad know how much we respect and admire him for all that he has done for us, and how much we love him.
The Lord of the Dance is playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills tomorrow.  I wish I could take you there to see.

Love You,
Susie

Jim's Letter 2015

Remembering Mom 2015

3-16-15

Hi Mom,

This last weekend Diane came over and Jeanie, DI and I enjoyed a wonderful Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner, some beer and few good laughs.   We reflected on some old memories of Grandma and you and remembered you both with fond memories.  We also had some IRIS soda bread from a local bakery but not like the IRISH soda bread we have come to love….this was too sweet.   Your recipe is just right with a little jelly or peanut butter is always delicious!

Love you & miss you.

Your son,

Jimmy

2015 thinking of you - letter from Susie

Hi Mom
I think dad could use the support of your wings. He is in the hospital with stomach troubles. He is not really eating and he seems to be in pain. I don't think he is quite ready to come see you, but he needs to find some comfort. Please shine down on him.
It is now 2015, we have been missing you for 12 years. Life continues on in your absence but it would be so much better to have your cheerful smile and friendly face here with us. We are not getting much of that from dad these days. Haha.
One fond memory I have been reflecting on this year was your ability to make yourself happy. Whether it was going out on Tues. nights with your friends or playing music for the senior home or getting out for a night to play euchre. You made sure to have an activity to do that was for you and made you happy, even though it was not always effortless. Often it takes energy and time arrange these activities, but you recognized the importance of friendship and laughter. Speaking of laughter, I watched an episode or two of I Love Lucy with Allison and Shane the other day.  We were all giggling at her silliness.

Love and miss you,

Susie

Remembering Mom 2014

Remembering Mom 2014

Hi Mom,
It is Friday February 28th and I was just driving to work and I suddenly remembered your passing tomorrow, March 1st.  I started this letter yesterday when I got to work and now it is early Saturday morning.  There are many times I wish I could just sit at the table and visit with you.  This is one of those times.  I really miss you!

One of the times I remember thinking of you this year was when I was reviewing Kathleen & Conner journals they have to write weekly for school.  They are only 8 years old and thought back to the times you “helped” me with my “creative writing” assignments for school.   I was much older and those were really hard for me to do and you stayed with me when I was tired and lost focus.  At least one of the assignments I know I felt bad about turning in cause if was more yours than mine.  I think you got a good grade though!

We had a 60th Birthday party for Danny this year.  While looking for some photos for the party I came across some good ones and attached them along with a pic from Dan’s party.

Figure 4 Grandma was so fun to travel with.

Figure 3  Wow What fun in the Winnebago !

It was another great family party and you were dearly missed by all.
Love you.

2014 - Letter from Sue

Dear Mom,

I am so pleased that I have taken the time to write to you over the years. This blog has helped me accept that you are no longer with us, and focus on fond memories of what a beautiful lady you were.

Recently I spent hours going over tapes that you recorded of yourself playing piano, and of you and your mother talking and singing.  My how they made me laugh and cry. I miss Grandma's Irish brogue and all of her stories.  The Irish songs that had such great lyrics about drinking and getting into mischief. What a great sense of humor our Irish heritage has given us. These tapes are like a little time capsule which has been such a treat to open.

This walk down memory lane has reminded me how lucky I am to have had such a happy and friendly grandmother and a mother whose smile and charm would brighten the room.  It makes me feel comforted; like watching the morning sun rise over the hill.

Missing you always,
